Thanks to everyone who commented in response to my last post on whether I should get a Dell or a Mac. Your input will be taken into consideration when I have to make my final decision, so thanks for taking the time to comment!

Anywho, contrary to previous expectations, a few people decided to request website reviews in reaction to my earlier post on WPR. Unlike many, I generally like giving criticism, so this should be a good experience for me.

The first person who sent a request was Lish from lishedoutlove. Since reviews from me are on a first-come-first-serve basis, Lish will be the first "reviewee". I hope she doesn't mind being my "guinea pig" (you know, since I'm new at this and all).

You have to click below to open the rest of the entry because of its length—sorry, I honestly don't know when to stop writing. But I guess that's a good thing when it comes to reviews, right? Well, maybe not..

My Journey into the World of WPR

Jun 5, 2008 under Internet, Reviews. 5 comments. // First time visiting?

Note: The following entry contains the rules I've created for my WPR service. Please note that an updated version of these rules can be found on the Get Reviewed page.

I always enjoy reading website reviews, whether or not the views expressed in them are positive or negative. This is because often, I find useful tips in them that I can take for my own usage, but even if I don't, I still enjoy analyzing other peoples' points of view regarding various web-related trends and tendencies (like whether they hate "Georgia" or have a love for large fonts).

Although I enjoy reading other website reviews and am a big fan of the "review process" in general, I haven't once created a reviewing project for myself even though I've always wanted one. And in my opinion, this is the ideal time for doing so, because there really isn't anything better for me to do right now (school's just about over for me).

So here's the deal. Anyone who wants to get a personalized review from me may send me a message via spiffy contact form, specifying where his or her website is located. Since I'm not quite sure how all of this is going to go yet, I'll keep all of the rules within this specific entry, but if the idea really takes off, I'll consider putting everything onto a more permanent subpage.

Guidelines

Before any people consider submitting their webpages, however, I'd advise that they fully understand the rules and guidelines provided:

  1. All reviews I make will be public and will be posted in the form of a blog entry. If you'd rather get critiques through a more private means, consider going to a person who's happy to provide critiques via e-mail instead, as this place really won't be for you. Don't worry, though--despite anything anyone may have told you, I am not a scary, evil person. :P
  2. Anyone whose website is reviewed must have the ability to take criticism. If I suggest something, don't say, "well at least my _____ is better than yours!" The ability to take criticism is an important sign of maturity and will get you far in life (at least, that's what I've always thought).
  3. Before sending in a website, make sure it's at least presentable and that you're completely finished with its creation. I honestly don't want to waste my time critiquing something, only to have the website owner explain to me how he or she was going to fix it anyway.
  4. If I review you, a small link back on a credits page or anywhere else on your website would be appreciated.

Scoring Criteria

I have no official rubric yet, but I sort-of have an idea of how scoring will work. Before submitting your webpage, please understand that I tend to be picky when it comes to the layout, coding, blogging, visitor content (if any), etc. Although, I can assure you: nothing here will be out of the norm.

So that's really all I have to say when it comes to this whole reviewing process. Hopefully someone should sign up so that I can have something to do with my time. If many people submit their websites, I'll have to create a waiting list, but in all likelihood, that's probably not going to happen.
